I was at first reticent to advertise these often gushing reports.  However, I am informed that very little in the way of marketing success is to be gained from a ‘vague and plodding’ English approach – which is a pity as that’s the strategy I like.  All I can say is that none of it is made up.

Thank you for such a lovely break.  You made us feel very welcome and looked after us wonderfully.  The shower was to die for.  Food – divine!  See you again soon.

To Matt, Katie, Ella and William

Thank you for accommodating ALL of us so well. Little Oscar, who is only 13 months, was catered for very well and we enjoyed your cooking particularly as the veg was from your garden and the chicken was delicious (as well as the fresh eggs for breakfast).  All of us slept very well, the room was gorgeously decorated and very comfortable.  We loved the special little touches – they make the difference between a ‘good’ B&B and a ‘fabulous’ B&B.  Thank you from all of us.

We had such a wonderful time with you all; Matt, wonderful food, lovely lunches to keep us stoked on our walks.  So fun to hang out with the whole family and enjoy the beautiful house, garden, walks with Poppy and Charlie and Katie, Ella and William, thank you for sharing your house and hospitality with us.  You made our time here feel like we were visiting friends.  Hope to come back again one day.  Keep singing those beautiful songs Ella!

Fabulous food, beautiful surroundings, amazing walk, and the best bacon sandwich in the North East (2009)!  We had such a great time and will visit again soon.

Thank you so much for your hospitality!  It is a pleasure to spend one night in such a cosy atmosphere.  Only two days after leaving Paris, it feels really great to smell the flowers gently laid out in the room, to listen to the wood cracking and to Matt whistling…we also felt welcomed by the glorious nature around us including, but not limited to:  sheeps, lovely drizzle, amazing garden…Congratulations for your lovely family, and happy birthday to Ella.

8th – 13th August 2009

Once upon a time there was a German couple – whose names were Helga and Frank – from Dusseldorf on their way back from Scotland.  They had booked one night at Chapelburn with Matthew, Katie, Ella and William.  However, they stayed 5 nights and six days unexpectedly!  Can you guess why?

    Everything was beyond their expectation:

- a warm hearted family with lovely children

- a cosy atmosphere in a very nice cottage

- a too large breakfast

- a double birthday party (Ella and Frank)

- an exquisite dinner for two

- a beautiful landscape and walks in the rain….

And if they still live for another 10 years they might come back and stay another 5 nights!  Our best wishes to you and thanks.

To Matt and Katie,

A most enjoyable stay.  The rooms are fabulous.  We had a good nights sleep, which was lovely.  What can I say about the food.  It was fabulous.  Thank you for a lovely stay.  Wishing you all the best for the future.

Dear Matt and Katie (and Ella and William)

We stayed a week, and now we are considering making a permanent arrangement at Chapelburn.  We would very much like to be taken care of for the rest of our lives, and we have decided to pick you for the job.  Where else could we get such great meals, such comfortable accommodation, such wonderful company, and such steady support for our endeavours?  Of course we want to live here!  But if we can’t, then we just want to say thanks again for everything and we promise to return.  You guys are the tops, and anyone who feeds us (especially the way you do) is our friend for life!

Dear Matt, Katie, Ella and William

Thank you for a great stay.  We love Chapelburn and only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the countryside and your hospitality.  Our room was so comfortable and the bathroom and shower truly first class.  And what a breakfast, too, everything you could wish for, particularly the sausages and bacon.  We look forward to coming again with an extra guest!  In the meantime Alastair S. take note; this is better than any of the other B&Bs in your book.

Thank you Matt, Katie, Ella and William for making us so welcome.  Matt your food is delicious.  The room was lovely and comfortable and the ‘real’ fires so comforting.  We’ll be recommending you!

Dear Matt Katie and your two delightful children Ella and William.

These last four days have been a mixture of delight, nostalgia and memories.  As an occupant of this Chapelburn House during and after the war years I have found it fascinating to revisit the area where I have spent some of the best years of my life.  The joy of this visit has been greatly supplemented by the hospitality of our hosts – the excellent cuisine and tres bon accommodation.  I wish you great success in your endeavours and thank you for your hospitality.

Jim Stansfield, Hull

This week has surpassed our expectations.  We just love the way you have made the house so welcoming and comfortable, stylish and traditional all at the same time.  It is an absolute tonic for city dwellers and perfect to re-charge our batteries.  Many, many thanks.

Thank you for allowing us the privilege of sharing your lovely home.  We have had a great week.  Your information on the best places to visit and find the things we were looking for were really helpful.  You made us feel very welcome, the room was lovely, the food divine, your hospitality faultless, the setting peaceful and relaxing.  We will certainly recommend you and hope to return in the future. Thank you once again.

Our family took both rooms and couldn’t have been happier. Matthew was a wonderful host.  Dinner was the best we’ve had in the four nights we’ve spent along the wall, breakfast was great, and the ploughman’s lunch he’s just put together for us just tops it off!  We need to leave before we put down roots.  Best B&B on the Path, by far!  And best dinner since we’ve been in Europe!!

Thank you so much for the great stay here, which was the best decision for us!  Matt was just so friendly, the room (+ shower!) extraordinary good, the location just stunning.  Highly recommended.

Although both of us were really looking forward to Scotland (with Ian especially in ‘great expectations”) Matt’s B&B made it more than difficult for us to leave.  A wonderful room to stay (with stunning view), a perfect arrival in the evening (good talk, a glass of whiskey to go with it) and the breakfast in the morning (for which I ordered sunshine and “high” temperature) in the company of his cat nearly lured us into staying – if it hadn’t been for a dog and a cat waiting for us in Scotland…

Highlight of my trek along Hadrian’s Wall, delightful spot, room and bathroom both had the wow factor, the most comfortable bed which was so desperately needed!!

Evening meal was superb, felt as though we were in a 5* restaurant.  The host with the most ‘Matt’ and your family made us very welcome indeed, will definitely recommend.

    Thank you for having us,
