Chapelburn House was built in 1820 as a coaching inn on the old Newcastle-Carlisle road.  Though it had been some time since the house served paying guests, in 2007 we decided to buy the place and revive the tradition.

We are a mile south of Hadrian’s Wall and three miles from Birdoswald Fort.  The area is renowned for having the best preserved bits of the wall - all within walking distance of Chapelburn.  While the wall receives most tourist attention, there are also numerous, little-known walks off and around the wall itself.

Our plan has been to create a home that retains character and atmosphere whilst embracing some 21st century luxury.  We believe you need a hot, powerful shower; 100% cotton linens on a comfy mattress and great home-cooked food.  The dining room, living room and garden room are all available for the exclusive use of guests. All our meat is locally sourced and our garden provides most of the vegetables as well as housing our chickens.  We also have two beehives to give you honey on your toast.

Mums and Dads - We positively welcome families.  We can provide everything you might need:  travel cots, high-chairs, bottle warmers, monitors, toys, shoulder to cry on etc.

Wall walkers - At no extra charge we are happy to pick you up at the end of the day's walk and deposit you, next day, at your start point. Within reason!

Please peruse our gallery of pictures and check out our guestbook.  We hope to see you soon.
